Packers Daily Links: McCarthy Chairs “Sick Kids Can’t Wait” Campaign

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and wife Jessica announced on Sunday they’be serving as honorary co-chairs of the “Sick Kids Can’t Wait” campaign in Madison. ”‘Sick Kids Can’t Wait’ is a four-year, $ 32-million dollar building project to meet the growing needs of patients and families at American Family Children’s Hospital,” reports Madison NBC affiliate, WMTV. McCarthy is taking part in the Mike and Jessica McCarthy Golf Tournament today in Madison to benefit the Children’s Hospital.

Over the weekend, a feature on tight end Jermichael Finley in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel put added attention on Finley’s desire to become a better player. “Finley wants to get to a point where he’s not counting his steps, not over-thinking,” writes Tyler Dunne. “He praises new tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot, who replaced Ben McAdoo, as someone who’ll let him freestyle. In meetings, they go over a play and move on.” Finley also shared plans to fly out to California after minicamp to work out with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

A lot of attention has focused on what Jermichael Finley describes as “freestyling,” which Raymond T. Rivard examines in a column at Lombardi Ave.

Running back Alex Green was the focus of another article over the weekend at the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Green’s injury has a relatively wide window of recovery for NFL players, usually from nine months to a year,” writes Pete Dougherty of Green’s torn ACL. “He had surgery on Nov. 16, so when camp opens in late July he’ll be a little more than eight months removed from surgery. When the regular-season opens on Sept. 9, he’ll be almost 10 months into his recovery.” In addition to Green, there will be added attention on fellow running back Brandon Saine as well. Saine figured to get increased playing time this season.

The depth of the running back position in Green Bay gets some attention from Tom Oates in a column at the Wisconsin State Journal.
